Ronald "Butch" Geerdes

Ronald “Butch” Geerdes, 66, of Stanhope, died, on Saturday February 8, 2020 at his home, of a long time illness with Hospice there to help care for him. Private family gathering will be held at a later date. Boman Funeral Home (www.bomanfh.com) is caring for the family’s needs.


Ron “Butch” was born on August 30, 1953 to Richard and Gertrude (Schmidt) Geerdes, in Fort Dodge Iowa, into a family of eight. He married Dorene Peter on October 19, 1974 at the Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Lake City, Iowa.

Ron “Butch” worked at various jobs during his life until he fell ill. He enjoyed his metal lathe job and later helping his wife with cleaning jobs. During his free time, he liked his computer and playing games. He had some good long-time friends he enjoyed keeping in touch with on the computer. He loved all kinds of music, mostly rock and roll. Most of all he was a good husband and loved his family.

His family includes: wife of 45 years, Dorene; 4 children: Joel (Michell, and her children McKayla and Clyde), Lisa, Shawn, and Jessica (Mike); 13 grandchildren: Ian, Makayla, Keanna, Tyler, Breanna, Shali, Austin, Landon, Mikey, Megan, Ivy, Lily, and Allyson; and one great grandson Calvin. He was preceded in death by two daughters: Amy and Laura; and grandson Isaiah.
