Norma Severson

Norma F. Severson, 83, of Webster City, Iowa, died on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at 10:30 AM at Graceland Cemetery in Webster City followed by a lunch at Trinity Lutheran Church in Webster City. The family has chosen Boman Funeral Home (www.bomanfh.com) to care for their needs. 

Born in Colfax, Iowa, on September 19, 1940, to Glen and Carlene (Wilson) Smool. Norma married H. Richard Severson on July 26, 1959. The couple settled in Webster City, where she worked at Ben Franklin for nearly a decade, from 1969 to 1979, and then served as a cashier at Fareway for 32 years, from August 1979 until her retirement in November 2011 at the age of 73.

Norma was known for her passion for gardening and took great pride in her extensive flowerbeds and well-manicured lawn. She also cherished her time with her beloved fur babies, left to mourn her loss: Bear, Bowser, and granddog Holly Berry. Norma was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church since 1959, actively participating in the Mary-Martha Circle and enjoying the fellowship of her friends.

Norma’s family includes her daughter Rhonda (Dennis) Smeltzer of Waterloo; two grandsons: Christopher (Amanda) Beattie of Palm Bay, FL and Glen Rykhus of Webster City; great granddaughter Sahara Forther of Palm Bay, FL. She was preceded in death by her father in 1987 and mother in 2003; husband in 1989; son Rich Jr. Severson in 2019 and sister Carol Ann Viles in 1992.
