Mary Chalfant, 77, of Webster city, died on July 2, 2023, at the Paula Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge. Friends and family are invited to attend the visitation that will be held on July 6 at Asbury United Methodist Church in Webster City from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A private family burial will take place on July 7. Boman Funeral Home (www.bomanfh.com) is caring for the family’s needs.
She was born on November 5, 1945, to Rue and Genevieve (Simpson) Shelton. Mary attended Webster City High School and graduated in 1963. She furthered her education by attending Business College in Mason City, where she received a paralegal certification. On April 3, 1964, Mary was united in marriage to the love of her life, Jim Chalfant, at Asbury United Methodist Church in Webster City.
Mary's role as a homemaker was where she truly thrived. She lovingly cared for her home and family while they were growing up on the farm. Mary created an environment filled with love and endless support for her children. In 1988, the family moved to Galesburg, Illinois, returning to Webster City in 1999 when they built their new home. While living in Galesburg Mary had a fulfilling career as Office Manager, at Mid-State Manufacturing, she helped to grow the company from 12 employees to over one hundred. After returning to Webster City, she worked at the Superior Street Casey's, retiring when they built the new store. Mary was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, where she was involved with Pairs and Spares.
One could often find Mary pursuing her hobbies and interests during her free time. She shared a deep passion for camping and boating with Jim and her family, spending most weekends away from their everyday lives enjoying nature's beauty. Mary also had a talent for crafts and eagerly taught others various techniques. Quilting brought joy to her heart as she meticulously created and gifted beautiful pieces. Her green thumb shone brightly in her home flower garden, a testament to her nurturing spirit. However, nothing brought Mary more happiness than spending time with Jim, their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Mary will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 59 years, Jim Chalfant; children: Rob (Kelly) of Bentonville, AR, Randy (Michele) of Webster City, IA, Russ (Danielle) of Monticello, IL, and Linda Coy of Fort Worth, TX; grandchildren: Amanda (Brandon) Reed, Lauren (Alex) Jones, Cody Chalfant, Lynne (Cameron) Moen, Theresa Chalfant, Kaitlyn (Brandon) Butzin, Emily Edmondson, Jacob Edmondson, Bella Coy, and Stella Coy. Her four great-grandchildren: Collin, Jasmine, Tucker, and Levi; two brothers: Lynn (Coleen) Shelton and Paul (Cindy) Shelton. She was preceded in death by her brothers Bob, Gary, Ron, and Dale. The loving memories and cherished moments shared with Mary will forever hold a special place in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
