Helen Nessa, 91 of Webster City, Iowa died on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at Southfield Wellness Community. The family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday, June 1st, at United Congregational Church of Christ from 9:30-10:30 AM followed immediately with a memorial service at 10:30 AM in the church. The family has entrusted Boman Funeral Home (www.Bomanfh.com) to care for their needs.
Helen Jeanette Smith was born on September 7, 1924, in Story City, Iowa to James and Nellie Smith. She attended rural school through 8th grade and then Story City High School where she graduated in 1942. She graduated from A.I.B. Business School in Des Moines, Iowa. On August 24, 1947, she was united in marriage to Orville Nessa at the Grace Methodist Church in Story City. He passed away on November 15, 2007. Orville and Helen farmed for many years in the Story City, Blairsburg and Webster City areas. Helen was a homemaker and worked at Luppes Block Oil Company at the Blairsburg corner as a bookkeeper for ten years. She was a member of the First Congregational Church and its Piecemakers quilting group, the TAT Club and Van Diest Medical Center Auxiliary.
Survivors include a son, Gregory (Shar) Nessa of Carroll, Iowa and three daughters, Gretchen (James) McGlynn of Webster City, Iowa; Cheryl (Jim) Sutherland of West Des Moines, Iowa and Denise Miller of Mountville, Pennsylvania; 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by and infant daughter, Gayle Marie; her parents; brothers, Howard Smith, LuVerne Smith, Alvin Smith and son-in-law Mark Miller.
