Emily Follett, 97, of Webster City, died on Sunday, March 19, 2023, at the Southfield Wellness Community, in Webster City.  Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Boman Funeral Home (www.bomanfh.com), in Webster City.

 

Emily was born on September 19, 1925, in Memphis Tennessee, to Edgar and Ruth (Harrington) Scherich.  After her mom passed away when she was seven years old, she moved around and attended several different schools as she was growing up, including one year at the Blairsburg High School, in Iowa.  She graduated from the Teachers College (now UNI) in 1947.  In May of the same year, she married Dave Follett, at the 1st Congregational United Church of Christ in Webster City.

 

Emily taught school in Mason City, until her children were born, and she stayed home caring for them until they were in their teens.  She then taught art at the Junior High School and the High School in Mason City.  She finished her career teaching Vocational Rehabilitation at Iowa Central Community College in Ft. Dodge.

 

Emily was an accomplished oil/acrylic painter. She also loved archery and spending time with her flowers and gardening.  Most of all she loved her grandkids and spending time with them.

 

Emily’s family includes her children: Tom Follett and Nancy (Mark) McConnell; grandchildren:  Zachary McConnell and Dr. Lendie (Paul Clausen) Follett; great-grandson Walter Thomas Clausen; sister Jeanie Scherich.  She was preceded in death by her parents; mother-in-law Elise Follett; husband Dave; brother and sister in-law Edgar and Betty Scherich; Aunt and uncle Anna and Ross Payton, of Webster City.
