Darla Patterson, 74, of Blairsburg, Iowa died peacefully, surrounded by her beloved family, on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. A private family service will take place at a later date. The family has chosen Boman Funeral Home (www.bomanfh.com) to care for their needs.
Darla was born on March 30, 1949, in Iowa Falls, to Frank and Thelma (Hanson) Stielow. She graduated from NE Hamilton High School in 1967. On October 26, 1969, she married her high school sweet-heart Patrick Patterson at the Williams Methodist Church. Darla was a stay-at-home mom when the children were young and was an exceptional farm wife, always seeing to the needs of her family with meals and rides. Darla’s number one priority was caring for her family, which she did to the very end.
Darla loved teaching pre-school at NE Hamilton Schools in Blairsburg, her flower gardens and reading historical fiction. At 6:30 PM you could find her watching Wheel of Fortune, almost always solving the puzzles faster than Pat. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan; Darla, Pat and family would travel to watch their beloved Hawks play football and basketball. Darla also enjoyed going on “girl trips” all across the globe. She had a strong faith in God and was a lifelong member of the Williams United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
Darla’s family includes: her husband of 53 years; children: Laura (John) Seiser and their family, of Blairsburg, Carrie Betts and her children Shiloh, Jordan and Colten of Blairsburg, Eric (Beth) Patterson and their children Owen and Evan of Blairsburg; sisters: Shirley (Ron) Baumann of Iowa Falls and Jaynne Smola (significant other Richard) of Dyersville, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law Pam Patterson.
