Arlene Northrop

Arlene Rose Marie Gangstead Northrop, 87 of Ames, formerly of Stanhope, Iowa died on Sunday, January 19, 2025. Visitation will be at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth, IA on Friday, January 24, 2025, from 9:45-10:45 AM, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM. The family has chosen Boman Funeral Home (www.bomanfh.com) to care for their needs.

Arlene was born on March 28, 1937, to Joseph and Gladys Gangstead on the family farm in Goldfield, Iowa. On September 4, 1952, she married Eugene Northrop at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They lived around Goldfield and Hardy area until November of 1957 when the family moved to Stanhope. Arlene was a mother and homemaker until 1971, when she started working at Franklin Products (Electrolux) until she retired.

 Arlene’s family includes Her children: Gary (Elena) Northrop, of Stanhope, Tom (Kathy) Northrop of Boone, Judy (Curt) Harrenstein of Webster City; special friend Harlan “Oscar” Hertzke; nine grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and son-in-law Jim McCollough. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Gene; daughter Jeanie; brothers: Jim and Norman; and Sister Marilyn Hokel.
